Empowering parents to navigate special education.

PRINCIPLES

Parents are passionate about their children and it will take every ounce of that passion to ensure your child receives an equitable education up to and through the college years

All parents enter the public school system expecting their children will receive a “good” education. School quite honestly becomes an entirely different experience if your child requires services and supports.

Parents fight for evaluations and special education with no support and are constantly shut down by the 3 D’s of delay, deflect and deny used by the System.

My role is to push through the 3 D’s and build consensus based on common ground of meaningful student data in a collaborative PPT team. Teachers are invested in wanting all students to be successful, the individualized services and supports are based in measurable data and needs of the student.

Relentless persistence defines my efforts to advocate for my clients

A practice of relentless follow up is no understatement. Parents are the only ones who follow up on if and how their child’s IEP is being implemented… this is where persistence pays long term dividends towards educating your child.

Special education is intended to close the achievement gaps with intensive instruction that is measurable, time limited and specific.

Whether parents like it or not, once they learn their child has special needs… you have entered into the “business” of education.

Just as in business, if an agreement is not written down, it won’t happen.

Did you know, an IEP should result in at least 1.5 years of progress in 1 year’s time to be effective at closing the achievement gap?

Educating children with disabilities is both a marathon and a sprint against time.

Your child’s present level of academic performance matters. Baseline data should be presented to develop an IEP that will close your child’s educational gaps. With my advisement parents “see” through the IEP process to be able to advocate for what their child really needs in each and every PPT meeting.
